PlantLuck: Eating Delicious Food with Nice People

A PlantLuck works like a PotLuck, where everyone brings food that is enough for several people and which is then shared among those present. In addition, the entire buffet is purely plant-based, i.e. vegan, and as low as possible in cooking oils. WholeVood.Pod Berlin initiates these open meetings regularly, usually in public parks in the summer, and participation is for free.

The focus is on socialising, and that is easier with people who also share common views. For us personally, besides the delicious food, it’s about animal welfare, preserving our own health, conserving our earth’s resources and achieving the climate goals. Of course, it’s also about sharing recipes and tips for our own plant-based cuisine. Or about sharing home-grown sourdough.

Even for those who have no opportunity to prepare their bring-along for the PlantLuck in their own kitchen, a relaxed participation should be possible. So that you don’t get unhealthy vegan junk food (a lot: cheap fat, salt, sugar, additives, …) in a hurry, we quote here our 7 criteria for shopping in the supermarket of industrial products that are still closest to being usable in our eyes. They are, if they:

  • contain few or preferably no additives, i.e. no flavourings, flavour enhancers and preservatives,
  • contain no (or only very little) refined sugar,
  • contain only little and acceptable fat (palm oil only if certified organic),
  • are comparatively low in salt,
  • are certified organic, preferably by one of the major farming associations,
  • come from the region where possible,
  • and, of course, are without animal ingredients, i.e. vegan. (Cf. Göpel 2022, WholeVood, page 67)
